First sport coats! How do they fit?

Hello, this is my first foray into sport coats and I am looking for comments on how they fit. My chest measures around 37" and I am 5'8"-5'9". I would normally get a short but these jackets are only offered in one length. These have yet to be altered so I'll obviously be taking in the waist and adjusting the sleeve length. Most importantly, how are the shoulders and the length? Should I get them shortened?

Sorry for the less than ideal shots, I had to take all these pictures myself. Thanks for the help.

Howard Yount's new SCs?

The second fits you better. The shoulders look better on you and the length is more optimal.

It may just be the low camera-angle, but in the full-length shots they all look a bit too short...

On this one the right side looks longer than the left.

I was going by the length in relation to his hands (with the SC buttoned). I know that's introducing an imperfect science, but without a side/back angle, it's hard to know for sure.

The right side is higher on that pic because my arm is raised in order to hold the camera. I'll some full length shots at a higher height in a bit. Please standby.

edit: added some more pics.

sleeves are long and the jackets don't have much shape, but overall ok.

Right side looks longer in the full-body shot too, with your arms at your sides. And look at the squares of the pattern at the bottom.

You're right about the right side appearing to be longer. I'm not sure if it's the way the jacket is wearing on me or the actual sides. I'll have to look into it.

I would say the front balance is a tiny bit off. You can see the vertical lines are closing \ / rather than paralled I I.
But don't worry too much about it. No one will notice IRL. Both fit you quite well, cong!happy.gif

From the numbers, the length is likely to be right. I'm 5'7" and I go with 28.5" BOC which is just slightly on the short side of what SF groupthink prefers.

Did you try a 36 or 37?

overall looks pretty good, ie there's potential but will need some tailoring.

I'm not sure if these are the same SC maker but I prefer the look and fit of #2. The grey one's shoulders seem rather boxy.

and as a guy of your stature myself (5'6, 130 lbs, 37 chest), one of my big pet peeves is massive wide sleeves with large sleeve openings. take a look at the size of the jacket sleeve compared to your shirt cuff... I hate that.
