I think they are very elegant and would like to pick one up. Unfortunately, I have seen very few if any at all and I imagine they would be expensive as well. I am probably going to wait until I can have one made, unless I see a reasonably priced, classically styled one soon.

Everyone makes this. The first store I checked, Brooks Brothers, has it.

Quick question regarding topcoats/overcoats: Let's say it's a three button, single breasted jacket... which buttons do you button?

like ZOMG! i was just asking some people this very question about a 3 button SB overcoat i just got. both answers were to button the top two button only.

i just got pics back from an evening wearing the jacket and the bottom button was closed, looks terrible.

im still curious to hear other peoples thoughts as well.

also the model in the BB link above has all 3 buttons buttoned and i think it looks pretty suck ass.

I buttoned the middle one. On a colder/windier day, the top one to ensure the scarf is held in place.

At some point, Hickey Freeman made one in a black and white herringbone tweed with a velvet collar. They still make the same model, but in different fabric.

I would button the middle one normally to give some 'roll' to it and also show a bit more of the layering underneath the coat. But if its cold as frook, I'm buttoning every single button there is, pop the collar and what not.

+1 to popping the collar when cold as frook (i like that word smile.gif ), gotta keep the neck warm when you may not have a scarf.

special love to the awesome contrast pinstripe pattern under my collar. hate all you want but its ballin.

Maybe a calf-length, a little more particular? The BB one looks cheap (not that I have much $, though). Perhaps bespoke is the way to go? I'm just asking so I could find some second hand ones on eBay, preferably in pure cashmere.

 

btw, I would button the top two

So what do you want? second hand ebay or bespoke? they're vastly different the last time I checked.
