Ties and Dress Shirt Collars when wearing a Suit

Thread Starter

The majority of photos always show a tie hanging lifeless under either a spread or point collar.

How many of you agree that a well dressed man always has a slight arch and dimple in his tie?

The arch of the tie can be achieved by using a true tie pin (barbell or clothespin model only), or a dress shirt with a tab collar (Brass tab to hold the tab and collar together). The 4 in hand with a dimple is the preferred knot.

Having the tie arch away from the collar, creates a much more sophisticated and dressy look.

Do any other style forum member dress this way when wearing a suit?

perhaps you should browse the What Are You Wearing Today thread... plenty of guys rocking tie boners.

I don't really care for the arch. But a dimple is preferred.

Poloboy,

I have recently found—having lurked in WAYWT and discovered the "double" four-in-hand—that this knot, with a bit of practice, actually gives a fantastic dimple and also gives that "3D" look you seem to be describing.

I haven't tried tab collars or pins, but my efforts with the double four in hand have yielded some really stellar results with a lot of "character," if you could call it that.

Warmly,
