Post your photography skills! (self-gloss) - Page 201

I shoot my DSLR in manual to try to be the one making the decisions, but sometimes it still tries to think for itself. All I can say about my old P&S is good riddance.

My buddy had a phone a few years ago with the Zeiss lens. It's more than just marketing, folks. They take a nice picture.

Impressive. This is why the point-and-shoot camera market is doomed.

Yeah; where's the happy medium between this and the craziness of legit camera sites

What sites do you recommend?

APUG is a rabbit hole (for film), although even there it doesn't move too fast. Certain flickr group discussions are good but like Styleforum it takes time to sort out posters and their biases. Can't say I've managed it yet. I end up getting good, thorough answers to obscure questions on photo.net, but usually through google results rather than navigating the site

It seems like photography-oriented forums have a knack for being poorly organized. I thought about joining photo.net, but you have to pay!

APUG too; you can't even see the images (obv half the point) without donating.

There are those who would say forum software in general has been eclipsed by more usable, better organized media and we are essentially posting on a prodigy bulletin board right now

Depends what your purpose is. Other formats are geared toward sharing specific bits of media, not discussion. I think it comes down to the fact that 90% of the world (at least the U.S.) is afflicted with attention deficit disorder and can't be bothered to read full sentences.

However, making people pay to participate in your forum and contribute content is beyond archaic. It's completely ass backwards.

Also, it's ridiculous how many sub-forum and sub-sub-forums these photography sites break down into. Sometimes the sub-forums are even model-specific. This is terrible for discussion. If I want to post a portrait I've taken for critique, why should I be limited to the Analog Leica M forum? Come on. What you wind up with is a lot of gear chat.

Talking about gear would be more fun, if not for the fact that photography enthusiasts are the absolute worst sort of anti-snobs. Essentially, they sanctimoniously bitch and moan about the expense of any gear that isn't their own.
