Well if in fact you do get a 5D MK II and the prices do drop eventually you'll realize when you want to sell it you would experience a bigger loss on it than if you were to sell the nikon with 1k more shutter clicks.. or so. But that's just me I would rather wait a little while longer for prices to significantly drop.. and who knows maybe you'll be saving more cash be it $100, that's still and extra $100 you didn't have to spend , more upgrades for the lenses! Btw, on FF an 85 is almost equivalent to a 50 on crop, and when you think about it 85 is PERFECT for portraits.

Ive been reading rumors that it will be announced in march..if so I'll get a preorder. Oh, I also forgot to mention my wife wants the D7K so she can start doing baby portraits for all her friends and friends of friends (probably making more than I do lol) The way money goes in my house if I'm alloted for something and I don't buy it right away and wait then my wife might change her mind lol plus it's roughly 2400 new so that's not too bad and can easily be made back doing some photos throughout the year. 50mm on a crop is 75mm in Nikon world. I do like it but that's all I use it for. I don't do tons and tons of portraits (wish I had the clients but I'm too busy atm) So if I can only afford one lens to begin it needs to be an all around lens that can do portraits and not feel constrained indoors. I'm thinking just the 50mm 1.4

Nice first shot..have you tried cropping from the right? The colors are great on it. I'm assuming your subject is the one leaf popping up?

Thanks NOBD, going to do some city shooting today for a series for school can't wait. I wish I had a lens to replicate the wide angle of the first shot into the christmas ball. (maybe I should just shoot everything as a reflection from it lol

Have you heard about Samyang? They offer a 8mm f/3.5 fisheye lens for €289,– (don't know about dollar prices).

It should be in the first quarter of 2012. I wont be pre-ordering but my birthday is in March (maybe I will), I better start saving up! I just want this setup when I go FF:

35L
50 1.4
85L

If I had that set-up I would be complete.. Of course I would still acquire more gear and want more but for the most part that would be my holy trinity. If you wanna do portraits on FF though the best lens (absolutely hand down, nothing can compare) is the 85 1.2L. Put it this way: Longer focal lengths=better bokeh. Although my 24's bokeh is pretty pleasing. for us Canon users though 50 on a crop = a bit more than 85mm I think. But if I were you if you go FF try to try out the lenses before you buy them or at least the focal lengths cause trust me FF has some weird magic to make focal lengths more awesome (especially the 5D MK II).

I bought one.. too bad they sent me the wrong mount . So I am sending it in to be refunded as I realized with a 24L I'm fine without a fisheye. But it can be had for about $289 USD or less maybe.

Krp Yes 85 is nice for portraits but 50 works fine too..1.4 will give fine DoF because you have to get closer to the subject. I've shot film for quite a while before I had anything digital and the 50 1.8 I have on my old Canon will suit my needs great. 50mm + gives a nice flat focal field where as the 24 will curve it somewhat and make certain things like noses etc appear larger or foreheads and that. You're right a 35,50, and 85 would be nice, great all around assortment. I'm just going to start in the middle and work my way out as I save more money. I'll check out the samyang though, it sounds fun I honestly shoot with my 50 1.8 FD lens more than I do my other two (80-200, and the other one is a 105 2.8) It's the perfect length and can give near paper thing DoF when opened all the way up.

I have a question, I'm doing a shoot tomorrow evening and it's a brother, sister, and child (brother's girl.) How can I get some creative shots without making them look like a couple?

That's true, but I find the longer the focal length the better the background blur. Also 50's great for indoors if you don't have a lot of room but 85 is great for outdoors. Even a 70-200 would be great but if you have the 80-200 for Nikon just get a mount for Nikon to use on the Canon and save the hassle of selling the lens and then having to buy a new one. That sounds good though don't waste your money on the 50L get a different specialty lens that doesn't have any that are similar to it.

But I'm just waiting for the 5D MK III and it'll be history from then!
