Yet another newbie seeking critique

Greetings gents.

I'll keep it short. I just got my first tailored suit made today. I'm from India where we don't really wear suits too often but I'd really like to get into it as much as I can. I usually wear off the rack dress shirts and trousers but I do try to look for the best fit. Last week, I finally took the plunge and went to a local tailor for a peak lapel 2 button SB suit.

However, I lack experience when it comes to suits and tailoring so I'll post some pictures here. To my untrained eye, there appears to be something wrong with it but I can't really pinpoint what. Please take a look and tell me if there are things I need to fix. I'm not very tall so I searched for tips for short men before going to the tailor.

I'm aware of the tailoring thread but I only have really crappy phone photos with me right now. So, go ahead... be harsh. I'm trying to learn. Ignore the shoes though. Those aren't what I'm gonna be wearing with this suit.

Thank you in advance.

I would say the shoulders are way too much..They do not give your shoulders any shape..The sleeves are too baggy as well.. needs to be a little trimmer...pants are too long, needs to be hemmed...I cant tell much more because the pics are blurry  ..

It's ok but I'd have the trousers shortened so that the front just hits the shoe and the rear is pitched 3/4"

Thank you both for the tips. I'm sorry I wasn't able to respond earlier as I was traveling but I have a couple more questions.

Chocsosa, I have drooping shoulders which the tailor made note of. I wonder if it's a result of this or simply a case of poor tailoring. The sleeves are indeed too baggy and I would like a bit of shirt cuff to show even when I'm standing normally. Can I still get the shoulders and sleeves changed without completely destroying the suit? Is it a relatively simple process?

Aqualung, I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean by pitched 3/4". Do you mean I should have them cut diagonally so the front of the pants are shorter than the back or am I way off?

What do you guys feel about the shirt? The first picture is how I typically dress (with the sleeves rolled up even) as it's usually way too hot here to add more layers.

Once hemmed the trousers will look alright. The jacket looks like a off the rack pattern with the large enough to fit everyone, too large to fit anyone sleeves and low arm holes. I'm no alterations expert (though there is one in a thread on the main style forum page for precisely this sort of thing), but my gut instinct is that the sleeves could be slimmed up a bit with no problem until the low armhole catches you.

Is this supposed to have been made to measure? Your note is confusing as both trousers and coat clearly need more alterations yet a tailor has "made note" of your shoulders. I would suggest that he has little clue of his craft.

The trousers are way too long and the shoulders and body of the coat resemble a sack not somethimng intended for you. It will neeed skilled change

Nice pants/slacks/trousers...

I would go to the tailor for pants but not suits.

Hem the trouser

As a first bespoke garment, I think that is not the worse, just keep working on it and follow the above instruction, keep learning and lurking around here. You will eventually get there

In my opinion, pants are too long and sleeves are too wide, as above said, like the jacket is made to fit everyone. I prefer slimmer sleeves.

Hello again and thank you for the wonderful comments. I'm going to a different tailor this evening to get the pants hemmed. I'm hoping he'd be able to fix the sleeves as well.

Supposedly, yes. I wore the suit a couple of days ago and while the shirt and the trousers felt nice (still needs to be shortened of course), the jacket was a mess. It felt heavy and restricted my range of movement. These pictures were taken after I asked him to take in the jacket at the hips, shorten the sleeve length slightly to show some cuff and to shorten the pants. You can imagine what it would have been like before.

That being said, this was a bit of an experiment for me so I went super cheap. The fabric was a gift so I didn't spend a lot of money at all. I wanted to test these things out before I spent my cash on a reputed tailor. I think this cost me around 50 USD on tailoring (when converted). I clearly got what I paid for but now I know better, even if it's just a little.

However, a friend of mine has gotten much better work from this very tailor after a few months of working with him. Maybe I should just communicate better and give him more than 4 days time to work. This was pretty much the tailor's deadline though, not mine.

That's probably because I took a pair of off the rack trousers that fit me pretty well and asked him to replicate them :)
