Linen Suit cleaning

Hey guys, I have a cheap Linen suit I got from Overstock just because it was cheap. Well, I actually really like the suit! I was wondering, is it dry clean only for linen like wool? According to some sources it is, some say no.

Read the care instructions or ask a dry cleaner...

check the care label, but you can hand wash or machine wash in warm water.

It says dry clean but EVERY source I have read said many linen suits can handle gentle washing at home.

Well the source that wrote the label tells you to dry clean.

You can trust somebody on the internet that has never seen your suit or you can trust the people who wrote the tag. shog[1].gif

The linen is strong to water/heat.
But unless you want to ruin your suits, you should follow on the care label.

The manufacturer recommends dry cleaning but "every source" you've consulted says that it's ok to wash that linen suit.

Apparently, "every source" knows more about the fabric, construction, dyes, sizings, etc. of that suit than does the manufacturer of that suit.

I'd recommend following the manufacturer's care label. On the other hand, if you want to pioneer the "vagabond look", go ahead and wash it.

PS: Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

the linen may wash ok but that is only one material type in a jacket. The lining, pads, buttons, interlining, sleeve heads, pocketing materials, etc. will all respond differently to washing. Do you plan to press this linen jacket after washing it? Good luck

Because the jacket is cheap you want to be more careful how you care for it. It may not survive long.
