Opinions on Blackwatch

Someone on the forum recently characterized Blackwatch as of the moment. That prompts my question. I am weighing whether to buy a D.S. Dundee Blackwatch overshirt (aka shirt jacket) from J Press. The fabric looks very nice and from my limited experience Dundee makes good products. The colors make for a classic combination. Nonetheless, will Blackwatch look dated in a few years?

It's a classic tartan plaid. It's not going to look dated. It's probably centuries old already.

Blackwatch may be going through a bit of a resurgence in popularity right now, but it will never look dated. It is a classic and timeless pattern. Wear it in good health.

It's my favorite tartan, and I'm not the only one. The only time I recall it looking bad is when the green is off. Anyway, it's been around for 2 1/2 centuries. Pendleton does a wool woven shirt that's nicely done.

I think of the recent "trendy" blackwatch offerings the same way I view the Fair Isle resurgence. Just because it is plastered all over blogs and in J. Crew's catalog doesn't mean it will become a victim of fashion. Just be sure to stay away from any fashion-forward designing quirks or cuts.

I'd say blackwatch, like Fair Isle, looked great 50 years ago and will look great in 50 years.
