Yes, I don't really understand it, and I hate to pay more for black...but with the VAT refund and the SF promo it works out to $405 pounds, pretty good price for nice boots, I'm probably going to pull the trigger.

No-brainer? I don't see major differences in lasts. This C&J is benchgrade while the AS is in the handgrade level. Note that OP can choose his own color too, so it's not the comparison point.
I dont exactly know which shoe you are referring to but I did not like any of them.
I think the AS Alex belong to the Exclusive range, which is totally different to their Handgrade range. Anyway, I prefer the AS Alex to C&J Cottesmore, because as Gdot said, it's sleeker in shape and dressier. Regarding to the color, I prefer the Oak tanned color of the AS because it is easier to match with dress pants or jeans (navy, gray or any shade of brown) while the C&J is much more suitable with blue jeans.No-brainer?
