Proper overcoat sleeve length?

I know that the general rule for determining proper suit jacket sleeve length,is to allow for approximately 1/2" of dress shirt cuff exposure. But does the same rule apply for overcoats? Â That is,should the sleeve length of an overcoat be adjusted so that 1/2" of the cuff of the suit sleeve be exposed? Â What if the overcoat will also be worn without a suit? Your help is very much appreciated.. Â

Mitch:

Unlike the suit sleeve relationship to the shirt, the overcoat sleeves should be long enough to cover the sleeves of your suit and shirt by ½ inch, but you don't want them any longer.

Good luck returning that parrott. Get it on e-bay?
