Interesting New Camera - Lytro

I don't know how useful it is, but it's a cool concept. You can focus the pictures in post, after you've taken them. Not only focus, but focus the specific area of the pic you want in focus. Just have a look, I'm bad at explaining it.

Thanks for sharing this.

I find this very cool and am thinking about getting it for the missus for Christmas - she's been wanting a small, easy to use camera and this pretty much is foolproof, no?

Seems silly and awkward to use. I am a photographer and have never wished that I could change my focusing point. Maybe it's just me, but I would much rather have a compact point and shoot rather than a box that seems more like a cool gadget than something I would use for any length of time.

The technology in itself is impressive but if this is the final purpose, it's lame.

It's useless for artistic photography because photographers, not viewers, want to choose how an image is focused. If as a viewer I'm going to choose everything "in post", the photographer is irrelevant.

It's useless for practical photography (science, observation, journalism, etc) because if you can focus on multiple planes, you might as well just put everything in sharp focus so I don't have to click around on a touchscreen.
