i usually buy and wear hugo boss shirt but recently i went to a century 21 store and saw some nice yves saint laurent shirt for about $60-$75 range according to the tag they retail in the 100s range (about the same as hugo boss maybe more) inside a nice looking box and all. since im not familiar with YSL shirt i wanted an experience opinion on how they compare to hugo boss on quality and if is worth the price. i almost went for it specially because i saw them inside a nice box but i want to know more about the quality and all before anything.. thanks

YSL shirts you must have been looking at probably were from the now defunct Pour Homme line. Those shirts retailed anywhere from $70 - $130 and quality was lower than Boss. They were usually mass produced. Occasional pieces from that line were very good, but priced accordingly.
The Rive Gauche line (or just Yves Saint Laurent judging by current collections) never retailed shirts under $300. Even at outlet malls, the best you could do was $150 or so, that after big discounts and extra 30% off. Highly unlikely these shirts are retailing at Hugo Boss prices - only way is if they were counterfeits.
In that case, with what you are looking at, Hugo Boss > YSL.
To be fair, YSL Rive Gauche shirts are not the best quality either, but they are better fabric and buttons than Hugo Boss.

Mate I think you should just walk in to the store and have a feel of the fabric. YSL shirt for $60-$70 is cheap. I assume they quality will not be top notch. Even then I have few HB black dress shirts quality is good but not over the top. Its impossible tell quality of a shirt without looking and feeling it. I am sure you would know that HB black dress shirts have few different price ranges and the higher the price is the quality of the fabric is also better.
Also if you have a good rotation on your dress shirts (25 ++) then you will be wearing a shirt less than 12 times a year. That means any shirt should last you at least few years.
