Shoes for my Wedding

So, I am getting married in late June. It is a pretty casual affair (we are getting married on a farm outside New York) and I will (almost certainly) be wearing a solid navy suit. (Sorry Manton, but I have very much enjoyed your wedding attire advice and promise to do right in the tie department.)

I am planning on getting a new pair of shoes for the event. I am giving myself a budget of $1500 (she is buying a dress after all) and deciding what to do with it.

I know that I don't want to wear a plain toe or a cap toe (or a perf cap or brogue), but would rather get something more remarkable to add to my collection.

I was thinking about getting a balmoral boot made up in a dark brown by either Edward Green, Gaziano & Girling, or Vass. I would be very interested to hear thoughts on that choice or other suggestions that you all might offer.

Thanks

I think that would work out well, they all do a great job with their boots. I say go for it - i've seen what you are thinking about in Edward Green's collection and its pretty remarkable.

Well, I am thinking about this as something I will wear frequently after the wedding. I already have a few pairs of shoes in oxblood, but none in a dark brown (I have some dark brown pebble grain boots, but my other brown shoes are mid to light brown). So, I would prefer something in dark brown if folks think it will work.

Dark brown perf cap on a chisel toe last? Austerity brogue?

I'd probably steer away from the boot. Stick with a shoe and buy some nice silk or cashmere socks.

I would get these, personally:

For a boot, if you are dead set on that, the Wigmore or Galway are my two favorite, although a bit countrified.

Edward Green 120th Anniversary Brummel in dark oak antique. (or navy or green)

Sorted.

That is actually one of the non-boots that I am considering. A great suggestion. Thanks.

I have 6 pairs of black shoes (cap toe, perf cap, semi-brogue, cap toe boot, 3 eyelet derby, monkstrap)

I think I am going to do the rounds at the NYC shoe stores before deciding, but it is looking more and more like a dark brown boot. Given the recent concerns about a downgrade in quality at G&G and in customer service at Edward Green, I am somewhat hesitant to go that route, but may end up there for lack of other good options.

Frankly, several isolated incidents of "quality slippage" and "customer service issues" does not necessarily mean that I would avoid either of these two brands. I have shoes from both of them, and they are truly superlative.
