Milena Canonero. Never heard of her? Google up her resume and you'll see she may had more impact on the way we dress than 100 fashion designers. EVERYTHING in a Bond movie is a product placement, they chose Tom Ford, but it could have many firms that could have supplied suits for 007. Remember the flying AMC car in The Man with the Golden Gun, I believe it was a Pacer, or the Seiko with the ticker tape thing from the Spy who Loved Me? I highly doubt those brands were featured because a discerning gent like Bond would favor them.

We'll just have to wait and see how the suits turn out when the movie comes out. Not a big TF fan, but I did like the suits he did for Limitless.

I thought those were Armani. I seem to recall one scene in which Mora opens his jacket and there's a Giorgio Armani label visible.

It is the single greatest car stunt ever performed that did not result in the destruction of the vehicle by the end of the stunt.
This particular stunt, developed at Cornell (Calspan Corp.), was originally developed for and performed in a specifically selected model of the AMC Javelin in the Houston Astrodome (then the "8th Wonder of the World") and was dubbed the Astro-Spiral. By the time the movie came around, the AMC Hornet X, which (I suspect but can't verify) was similar enough to the original Javelin, was selected. AMC was the brand used by the thrill show company that performed the stunt for the movie. You are probably correct that AMC was approached at the time and offered the opportunity to place their vehicles in the film. The villain is making his escape in an AMC Matador, both cars having been "liberated" from the AMC dealership in the movie.





If you've never seen this before, take the next minute and seven seconds of your life to enjoy the following video. The heavily chopped nature renders the narrative incomprehensible but the pictures tell the story. Even the computer sim at the beginning shows how the stunt was designed around the AMC.

just lookin at the new stuff for Skyfall-- has anyone seen the new TF narrower width ties available, which appear to be the ones they're using for Bond this time round? I wouldn't mind owning one or two in the narrower width (I noticed even kiton had a selection of narrower ties avail at saks this month, which also looked really good)

TF narrow width ties are 4.5" now.

I bought of couple of TF ties this winter from the store at Harrods, and they were 3" slim already. I think there have always been slim-ish ones available in TF stores. But yeah, the Skyfall-slim ones I've haven't seen around yet, but I suspect they will have them in the TF store if you ask.

thanks-- but hoping someone might spot them at a saks, bergdorf, NM, or another location. I don't shop at TF stores, would rather get them from my favorite larger stores like those listed (also, at least i get some points toward a future gift card.... )

The shoes look like derby boots, I actually tracked down the brand that makes them (or at least a near-perfect replica of them), but I can't seem to remember the website. I think pairing those boots with the suit is probably going to be seen by most as an edgy call, despite the fact that wearing a suit with boots is classic. I think they fit great with the cut and style of the suit, and it's very trendy at the moment to pair this type of combination, so I think it makes sense.

 

Just as an aside on my personal views regarding the suit itself: I've always preferred slim, close-cut clothing, so seeing Tom Ford produce these close-cut, immaculately fitting suits is, in my opinion, a dream come true for me. I would kill to get a suit cut that perfectly; I don't think it fits too close or pulls, as some have mentioned on other forums. When Bond is seen moving around (in the Skyfall costume video blog), the suit looks just fine to me. It's all too easy to criticize a still-frame picture, but the suits look great when he's moving around. If anyone can pull off a slim suit, it's Daniel Craig. He definitely has the physique for it!
 

It really is. One of my fav movies!

As a modern man, I think Bond should reflect the day and age in which he lives, as every Bond has done before him. That means recognizing trends but also keeping with classic styles. General perception on the Internet (in other forums, blogs, etc.) seems to indicate in this case that these suits are too-fashion forward. I really don't have a huge problem with them, though. I think they fit as they're intended--to maximize his physique. That goes against what some would call traditional tailoring, but apparently the suits are very well-made and nearly indestructible. I think it's a fair bet to say that this look won't age terribly in the foreseeable future, and that within the next year or so, we'll continue to see some of these suiting trends stay in vouge. Especially jackets with three buttons, rolled to look like a two-button opening.
 

The Skyfall movie should be interesting as style watchers will probably soak in all the suit styles that will be featured there.
