G&G shoe dilemma

A while back, I ordered a pair of G&G Wigmore boots with dainite soles. I ordered the dainite soles because I intended to make heavy use of them during the winter rainy season. Not long ago, my boots arrived as ordered, except they came with the leather oak bark sole instead of the dainite. As a gesture of goodwill, which I appreciate, I've been offered 25% discount off my next G&G order for the mistake. I know some folks are indifferent or staunchly against anything but the leather sole, though I really intended to do a ton of wet walking in these boots. My options are to keep the leather soles and take advantage of the discount (I have no immediately plans for a new pair, though it's possible someday in the future), or I can return the boots (and place a new order for the dainite soles, I guess); I'm completely indifferent toward the wait if I order a new pair. Opinions from those that may have been in similar situations?

why not just throw a topy on?

I would ask them to just take the 25% off the price you just paid for the boots. You shouldn't have to place another order for $1k+ in order to receive a discount for their mistake.

If it is any consolation, dainite does not work as well as intended on icy snowy surfaces. What you need is a commando sole, but which does not suit a boot as sleek as the wigmore.

Topy the boots, and if you have no intention of buying another pair of G&G, negotiate for half off the discount offered or 12.5% off this current pair.

If I were you, I would keep the shoes and order the next one for 25%. Though if you don't see having another G&G in the near future, just ask them to fix the order (replacing, partial refund, etc., whichever works for you), they often accommodate.

I am sure the discount will come hand in hand very soon, once you have a pair of G&G, you can never go back icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Thanks for the replies.

A couple responses:
(1) We don't really get snow here, but I had in my mind lots of use in the wet weather since I walk to work.
(2) My other option is to send the boots back and have them resoled with the dainite. They will do this, it will just take some time, which is not a big deal to me.
(3) 25% on $12-1400 shoes is quite a lot of money; after some of the responses, I'm considering going this route. This pulls new G&G down into a different price bracket.
(4) Topy isn't an option I had thought of, but I may go this route (along with installing some toe taps that i would have had from the factory had I ordered the leather sole).

So far my retailer and G&G have been pretty cool about everything.

I agree with the Toppy advice. I have my first G&Gs on order and have been agonising over the soles. I like as much grip as possible but anything other than the oak bark sole means not having that lovely fiddleback waist. Nick from Bespoke England posted a suggestion with a picture of a toppy on an oak bark sole that I think looks nicer than danite and quite a few people say (including some here) that danite isn't that grippy anyway so it might be a better solution on a practical level.

Personally I would also toppy the heel to add extra grip and to make the sole all black which I think would look a bit better.

Please post updates, I for one am very interested in how you get on.

I would ask for sole to be replaced and 25% off the next pair of G&G's (order a new pair of shoes at the same time)

Malat...I have the Wigmore boot and originally got it with a single leather sole. I found it uncomfortable and opted to have them resoled with a double micro sole.

When it rains, I have found the micro sole, as to walking around cement sidewalks and within buildings, to be more comfortable and cushiony than the dainite sole.

It also does not stick out as much as a dainite sole and with the micro soles black/dark grey coloring, I feel it blends in better with this boot.

I have a double dainite sole on my G&G Thorpe boot and like it very much....especially for long walks/treks and its decent on snow and slush (although not icy snow). But it sticks out, its a bit stiffer of a sole than the micro soles, and based on my personal observations, would not aesthetically be my first choice for a Wigmore boot

So based on the above, consider these options as to under what circumstances or conditions do you intend to enjoy your Wigmore boots...and proceed accordingly.

Thanks for the feedback. Decided to keep the shoes. Going to go with the topy and kop a new pair with the discount.
