Winter boots for NYC walking

I'll be in NYC during the end of January and need a good pair of winter boots that will be waterproof/resistant enough for the slush but also comfortable enough for prolonged periods of walking. I'm thinking about Bean Boots or their Katahdin boot. I've been told a work boot a la Timberland or Red Wing may be better suited. I might even look at something from Merrell or North Face if comfort needs to be paramount. Any suggestions?

Also, unless you specifically are looking for boots that can be worn with a suit you will get a better response by posting in Streetwear & Denim.
