Getting a Brooks Brothers Suit Tailored

I'm curious whether people use the on-site tailors at Brooks Brothers when buying a suit or take the suit to someone else for alterations.  Have you generally had good luck with the BB tailors?  I'm only batting .500 and looking to purchase another suit, so I'm not sure whether to give them another shot at doing the alterations or taking it somewhere else to get the fit just right.

I just had them hem some trousers - A PLAIN HEM - and the result was atrocious. I'm pretty easy to please, mind you.

If you've already given them a shot and they failed, don't go back. Quality's going to vary tremendously from one BB store to the next, though, so if there's another BB in your area, you might try that one. Then again, if you've already got a good alterations tailor, it's probably a good idea to support him with more of your business. fing02[1].gif

I'd agree with you if I had a tailor that I really liked.  My wife loves her tailor, who has done a good job with pants for me, but I'm not sure I want to hand her a brand new suit as an experiment to see how she does with the jacket, since I'm a pretty slim guy.  I guess I'm trying to figure out which is less risky:  roll the dice with the tailor working that day at BB or a tailor I've never used for anything complicated.

I see your point. In that situation I'd go with the BB tailor. If he or she messes up your suit, it's on them I'd think.

Always use BB tailors for BB bought garments. Unless you have a very good relationship with a better tailor. If anything happens in that BB tailorshop it's on them. You will be reimbursed for the entire cost of the suit, or they will replace it or do what is necessary.

With a outside tailor say something happens which you are not happy, or their child runs in and rips the suit with a knife. Are they going to go to BB and buy you the same exact suit? what if they buy you like a suiting essentials and messed up your black fleece suit? arguing over small details like this will cost more than it's worth

I had the Umeda (Osaka Ekimae #3 Bldg.) location hem a pair of linen trousers this summer, and one leg came out slightly longer than the other (this is a result of my limbs not being perfectly equal in length, but they should have factored that in rather than just measuring out one leg and applying it to both). They fixed it for free (after apologizing profusely), and the flannel trousers I entrusted to them last month came out fine.

I'd echo the response that the quality of the tailors probably comes down to the location, but they should fix any screwups free of charge, with your only loss being time and patience. If they balk, then you should complain to the manager and/or take your business elsewhere.

This...I've been fortunate to have a BB tailor I have built a relationship and I can trust, even with non BB purchases.
