Good quality, affordable, low profile dress shoes?

I'd like to overhaul my dress shoe collection but I'm kind of stuck with what brands to look at.

I've set a budget of around USD$300-500/pair.

I know Carmina's are all the rage on SF, I bought a brown pair in the Simpson last whilst in Spain.

Whilst I don't doubt the quality I don't particularly like the english style of the shoe. I'm quite skinny and would like something 'lower profile' or sleeker. I don't think they're chunky by any means, but they're just not to my taste.

I'm guessing most english shoemakers are the same? I think I'd prefer something more Italian.

I have a pair of Rolando Strulini's which I bought recently that are around the same price, low profile and comfy. I have no idea if these are well constructed shoes though. I bought them in Lane Crawford HK which I believe carries 'fashion' brands.

I also like the look of Paul Smith shoes but some of the detailing is a bit OTT.

So I guess I'm looking for brand recommendations.... similar quality to Carmina but sleeker, that I can build a good foundation for my shoe collection from.

Any help appreciated

C&J on the 348 last? The 348 is too sleek for me even though I like sleek shoes.

Forgot C&J bench grade. Good for the OP's upper limit (~$460-$500 shipped to US)
