What to do about pants ....

To start with I am relatively oddly shaped when it comes to dress clothes. I'm 6' tall and 230lbs. My waist is 40 and length is 30. Shirts that fit me best are 17.5 neck and 35 arm.

Frustrating nonetheless since I don't have enough income to pay for MTM shirts/pants.

On to my issue:

I have problems finding pants that fit well and look good. I recently bought a few pairs of Brook Bros (outlet) pants and was relatively pleased with the fabric and look for the cost. I went with flat front pants over pleated after the BB rep I spoke with mentioned I was "breaking the pleat" (not sure if this was the exact jargon he used). What I'm finding on the flat fronts is that they're too tight when I sit down and the crotch (?) is far too low (probably because I'm a 40W/30L?). On the other hand, I have a pair of cheap Ralph Lauren - Lauren dress pants from Macy's that are pleated - fit really well, but look like crap (fabric is also crap) and I do "break the pleat" resulting in the pleats being open and it looks poor.

So I'm not sure what to do next. I typically spend no more than $100 on a pair of dress pants, but it seems my options are few and fair between.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance for any help!

I know I'm going to sound like a jerk for saying this - but your first, best option is to lose some weight. I bet if you even get down to the 38 range (what's that, prob 15-20 pounds?) you'd do a lot better in the fit department.

Other than that the only thing I can think of is more or pleats. If you were trying it on with 1, try 2. Or, if you were trying 2, you might try the harder to find 3 or - ugh - even 4 pleats. That will give you more fabric/room horizontally. I think there's a line of Zanella's that have 3 or even 4 pleats (the Jesse model?). I suppose deeper pleats (where the pleat itself just has more fabric folded in) might work too, but I'm not sure what brand to point you at for that.

Hope that helps.

The reason that It's tight in the crotch is because they lowered the rise on the Madison cut mAking it unbearable. Find a pant with a higher rise.

Thanks and no offense taken. I'm down from 244 so I'm on my way.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Was in the same boat before.

Higher rise with pleats works wonders.

Maybe go to a Big & Tall store and ask if they could recommend local tailors who can handle bigger odd sizes, then talk to that person about ideas.
