Thinking of putting more casual buttons on my Navy Suit

Hi everyone, first post here but have been lurking for a while now.  I really enjoy the forum and the shoe porn thread almost made me cry.

I travel a bit and am looking to maximize the  versatility of my wardrobe.  Although I do own many sport coats and blazers (including navy) as well as multiple suits (Navy, Charcoal, Black), I am considering something that may or may not work but is mostly for fun and versatility .

I have a 3 btn navy suit with a somewhat complex fabric (finely textured and multi-hued).  It is dressy looking but not your classic worsted fabric.  Due to its slight complexity, I am tempted to bastardize the jacket and see if I can increase its versatility.

I am considering swapping the buttons for dark brown horn with slight light brown swirling.  I am fairly certain that this will allow my jacket to be used as a sport coat without too many people being all the wiser.

My real question comes to whether or not I will be able to pair the bastardized jacket with its original trousers.  My personal style certainly allows the possibility (especially when consciously chosen) but I wonder if others would be able to "get it".  In truth, I actually consider an even less formal button such as MOP or even a fun and flashy burgundy.

Your thoughts are welcome.  Can one bastardize a less formal suit coat with casual and fun buttons and still pair it with the original trouser?

Yes. Check out Manton's 'Blazersuit' threads for inspiration.

Excellent.  I was hoping there was prior discussion on this idea but had no idea what to search for.  I will do some research.  Thanks!!
