Need business casual and comfortable shoes

First off, hey!  I've been viewing these forums for a long time, but I only just registered because I need help picking out some business casual shoes that aren't too expensive.

I'm starting a position wherein I'll be commuting to work into NYC; as such, I'll be doing a lot of walking.  This is the first real position I'll have ever held, so I'm utterly clueless in regard to what to wear.  I figure I'll wear shirts, ties, cords/khakis, but the shoes I can't quite figure out, and I feel that they're the most important piece.

Help!

If you're going to be doing a lot of commuting and you really can only get a single pair of dress shoes then I'd get something well made with a sleek rubber sole. You could probably pick up a pair of AE Van Ness for under $150 as factory seconds.

Aren't those a bit too dressy for my purposes?
