Wearing a turquoise shirt in the fall????

Thread Starter

I'm headed to a wedding in the country for the beginning of November.  It isn't a super formal affair so I will just be wearing a shirt a tie and not a suit.  I have it narrowed down to a nice orange shirt, orange/brown tie, and brown slacks or a light turquoise shirt, blue/grey/purple/teal tie, and dark charcoal slacks.  I am leaning towards the turquoise shirt however I am not sure if it is maybe past the season to be wearing that colour.  I would be interested in your thoughts.

Also, what do people think of pin stripe pants.  Are they still in style or should I just go with solid colour pants?

Thanks.

First of all, even if you don't wear a suit, you should at least wear a sportcoat. Especially if it's in the fall, otherwise you'll likely be cold, on top of being underdressed.

Go for a white or blue shirt, great tie, solid color pants (no-pinstripes), and a sportscoat

turquoise might draw too much attention at a wedding so be more conservative

Post pictures so we can make fun of you, err, I mean offer some constructive advice.

baby steps, guys...first let's get him to put on a sportcoat...then we can get him to throw out the turquoise shirt...

Shirt + tie without a jacket = bad.

Brown for a wedding, turquoise in november = bad.

Pinstripe pants = bad. Were in style in 1930.

For good suggestions, see Lostron's post above.

This sounds like a really bad combo, IMO. Wear a jacket, solid pants, and a nice dress shirt (i.e., neither turquoise nor any odd color).

Why not pair it with a white blazer?

They were big in the 90s.
I bet they were big in the 80s also.

I'd go with the orange shirt, but any color is fine.

Welcome to Styleforum.
With either of the combos you have proposed, please proceed to the nearest bowling alley and leave these people alone to be married in peace.

If there is still time, do yourself a favour:
On a (preferrably clean) bed, lay out the best 5 shirts, ties, jackets, suits, socks, belts and pants that you own. Take a decent photo.
On the floor nearby, lay out your best dress shoes. Take another photo.
Post these photos here. We will try to assemble something appropriate for you to wear at said wedding.

What about a turquoise turtleneck?

Does anyone else think those lapels on The Office character look ridiculous?
There is nothing inherently pleasing to the eye. I keep thinking of the space shuttle.

I recently wore a turquoise shirt with a grey/black houndstooth suit and a chocolate brown raw silk tie. Inadvisable for a wedding post 1981, but very well received at the engagement party I attended
