Keep, tailor, or sell? (nice suit)

Hi all, I posted this in the small questions thread but am planning to go to the tailors tomorrow so would appreciate a quick answer!

Hi SF, need your help desperately for tailoring advice!
So I nabbed this suit off eBay recently, and the seller's measurements were a tad misleading and I ended up getting a size too large of a suit. I was wondering how feasible it was to make this suit workable. What do y'all think about the fit right now? I'm thinking if I leave the shoulders alone I could at least take in the waist a little bit and slim the sleeves, but looking at the photos now they look semi-passable, with just a wide shoulder.
Thoughts? I'm way more used to wearing soft-shouldered suits, and this is rather new for me. Thanks all!
(Also, all you 40Rs out there, if this doesn't work out for me... wink.gif )

the whole thing looks baggy and the shoulders, as you've correctly identified, are too large.

What brand of suit is this (in other words, why are you so attached?)

It's a St. Andrews suit. I'm kind of disappointed, because if the seller's shoulder measurements were accurate (about 1-2 inches larger than seller said) then I definitely think it would be trivial to salvage.

Sell it on here....St. Andrews do well (fairly), it is too big to be tailored.

What size is it?

Looking at the tags it is a 52R european, and the seller wrote 38R. I would say it would fit a 40-42 European. I'm selling it right now in B&S -- thanks for the opinions.

If the shoulder measurement was off and the seller labeled it 38 when it is a 42, why don't you return it?

It's a Saint Andrews suit and I know there are definitely people on SF who will be interested it. I sniped it at the lowest price because no one bid, and I'm willing to just cover my shipping to whoever wants it, as it IS a very nice suit. My primary concern was making it work for myself, and as that seems to be an impossibility, I'll just pass it on to someone else.

The best thing would be to seek to send it back if the vendor's measurements are as wrong as you describe. If not deem the thing to be a bad experience and burn it.

since its all wrong, and and you prefer a soft shoulder. sell it, you will not be happy with it.

Thanks for the responses guys. I will be selling the suit, as I'm sure someone on SF will greatly enjoy it.

I'm more used to soft shoulders, but definitely open to trying new things.

Am I the only one who think the suit is not that big?

@Saturdays: Thanks, you're exactly right. The shoulder seam hits just a little over my natural shoulder, but accounting for the padding it's a good inch out over nothing.
