B-school placement interview suit - Peaked/Notched lapels; Besom/Flap pockets etc.

Hello!

I have been a SF reader for quite a while now, but this is the first time I'm posting here.

I am about to graduate from a top Business school and have my final placements coming up. I have decided to go the bespoke route for my first proper suit (living in India, a fine bespoke suit costs almost as much as nice off-the-rack one). After pouring through the posts here and on the web, I'm still left with some unanswered questions,

  • 2 button or 3 button jacket?
  • Peaked or Notch lapels ?
  • Besom or Flap pockets?
  • Pleated or Flat front trousers?
  • Cuffed or Uncuffed trousers?

I would also be grateful for advise on the appropriate lapel width, button stance and gorge for the jacket.

Some details: I'm about 6'1", 85 kgs (about 187 pounds), I've been working out a bit so I've somewhat well developed shoulders, biceps, chest and muscular legs. My body type would be long arms, lopng legs with a shorter torso. My shirt size is 42, and waist 34. I would be interviewed for an HR manager's role in a number of firms, ranging from consulting, FMCG to banking. I've decided to stick with a charcoal grey fabric in the super 100/120s range.

All those are for your personal choice. Each is appropriate in your circumstances so choose for yourself - not take a poll here. have some confidence in your tailor to deal with the cut in the first instance - maybe have a look about you or some images to assist but tailors make suits and not clients, that is the correct way round!

I can see business school has not trained you to make decisions.

As long as you keep the cloth discreet, Any style will be fine.

I think all would be fine except for peak lapels. While I like and wear them, I wouldn't wear them to an interview.

Thank you!

I am quite confused about the 3 button vs 2 button jacket. It seems a 3 button jacket suits taller men and has a slimming effect, while the 2 button accentuates height and broadens the torso. Would 6'1" be good enough to carry off the 3 button?

Also, are jetted pockets considered inappropriate for interviews?

Don't be a asshole. He did the right thing. Business school also teaches you to find the right people with the right skills... then HE can make the decisions.

Basically, go with a notch lapel, 2 button, charcoal gray, suit. The gorge should be a standard traditional depth. Perhaps someone can post a pic. It's your decision on the pants... if you get pleats, get cuffs. Otherwise flat front and no cuff. If you are young(ish), in shape and getting bespoke, go with flat front no cuff.

Second that, keep it classical and simple! At entry level positions HR will look for the more "maleable" candidates, not for those with a "strong" personality.
