Are either of these workable?

My local consignment store has two suits that are interesting to me right now, but both would require work, and I have no idea how much work, and if it would be worth it.

The first is a double breasted blue suit that fits me perfectly in the shoulders. It's a TINY bit short, but I think it actually looks good on a build like mine. It feels like it's half canvas. It's vintage, and has an amalgamated clothing workers tag in it. The problem is that there are a few tears in it from when it was in storage. The trousers fit perfectly, and I may buy it just for them. 35$








The other is an old fashioned navy suit with vest that appears to have been made for someone who was identical to me in build, but a good deal fatter. (Note: the store was closing, and I didn't have a chance to try on the trousers for the picture, but I'd tried them before, and they could probably be taken in). 45$











Are either of these worth getting, and how much should I be looking to pay when I have them fixed/altered?

Both look decent, I'm not sure in what setting these will be used in, but if its casual/street you may be able to pull off the vintage DB jacket - I wouldn't even get it patched/fixed

I do in fact own the hat. It was raining outside, and there was nowhere to put it in the changing room. It doesn't go with either suit, but did go with what I was ACTUALLY wearing that day.

To the first two posters: If I've violated etiquette, I apologize. I am aware of the question thread, but have never seen a post this long in it, and didn't want to get people angry about loading times. If this should have gone there, I'm sorry. I'll admit that, while I lurk here a lot, I don't really feel at all qualified to participate in discussion, and as such, I only joined when I had a question that hadn't already been answered.

To Blackhood: The second suit is a quite old style. I do find that I prefer slim cut suits, but as I'm 5'3, 120 pounds, and have a 32 inch chest, I tend to take what I can get as far as thrifting goes, and can't afford custom items yet (full time university student). My main concern was that the chest appears to be about a 40 (although a fat 40, rather than a broad shouldered one, as the shoulders fit), and would need to be taken in about 8 inches to be closely fitted, which I'm not sure is possible. My question with that is largely if it can be taken in enough to hang DECENTLY. A bit too big their isn't a big deal, as I'm trying to get a bit of muscle (I'm really tiny), but 8 inches is a bit much.

Edit: Also, as far as the hat goes, I'm aware that fedoras are hard to wear in my age bracket, because of the extent to which they've been co-opted by unfortunate subcultures, but it rains a LOT where I live, so I need some kind of hat, and a grey fedoras seems like my best option generally. I've thought about a homburg, but that can have even worse connotations.

Oh, forgot to mention, they also have an Alan Flusser (for Saks) shawl lapel tux. It doesn't fit me at all, but I can take measurements if anyone here is interested.

Re: the hat, does rain absolutely necessitate wearing a hat? I thought an umbrella was a substitute...

    It would normally be, but I don't like to have a hand taken up if I'm shopping for clothing (honestly, I'd rather never have my hands full when a hat does just as well, but I understand what you mean from a fashion perspective. Thanks for the advice on the other items.
