At $200, you are getting top grain leather, at best. This is supposed to be full grain sheepskin, which means that it is the full thickness of the hide. Also, lambskin and sheepskin are often used interchangeably. While different animals have fundamentally different skins with fundamentally different qualities, it's hard to judge unless you have actually seen the skins in question. That said, yes, if I am going to be hauling ass through the woods, I wear my horsehide jacket, and would leave the lamb for another day.

Here is my experience with a pair of Levi's Made & Crafted, Tack Slim Fit Jeans:
After an initial soak, the leather patch bled into the fabric. I washed them, but the stains are quite tenacious. As a bonus, the leather patch shrank after the wash and feels like a stiff piece of cardboard now.

This was the first and last time that I bought anything by LMC.

/\ That sucks. I'd bet Levis would replace.

I have a pair of off-white, non-dyed (ecru) Tack selvage jeans made in Turkey and the leather patch did not bleed or shrink when washed.

I also have a pair of Tack made with waxed dark indigo denim made in the USA, and a pair of Chinos made in USA.

Construction seems to be solid... nothing special but ok, but the fabrics are clearly a step above what you'd expect from Levi's regular line. The made in Turkey selvage denim is really nice.

Fit is really good on all my LMC pants too, the Tack is slim but not too slim for guys with larger legs.

I just wrote Levi's Made & Crafted customer support an email about it. Let’s see how they react.

For close to $200, they had better replace them!

Email the retailer where you purchased them also. Maybe get a direct exchange through them and let the store deal with LMC.

I wrote the Levi’s Made & Crafted customer service a polite email and did not get a reply. Obviously they are the kind of company that does not care about their customers and does not take responsibility for their products. Unfortunately bringing the jeans back to the retailer would be complicated as I don’t have the receipt anymore.

I don't think you can state that they are a company that doesn't care about their customers, based on this experience. You can definitely take it in to a Levis store and won't get turned away b/c you don't have a receipt.

I've had very good, speedy replies from Levis in the past. They have always been quite helpful.

Just return the jeans to the retailer. Ask for the dept manager. I doubt the lack of a receipt will be an issue.

I went to Levi's site today just to see what they were offering nowadays on their higher end stock... and I see they added LMC to the site.  I'll be darned.

Cruising around on Lawrence Covell's website (as I do when I'm not in Denver to shop the store) I thought I'd take a look at some street and denim wear and found some Levi's Vintage on 50% sale still. They normally carry some Made & Crafted too but don't seem to have any in right now. They have a few sizes left in the 47 midwash and a 54 darkwash and a few LVC button downs and cardigans and things in their final sale too. Always like to share some heavy discounts, hopefully somebody finds something good.

In January, I heard back from Levi's Made & Crafted customer service. I believe it took a while to get through to the right person. They offered to replace my faulty jeans and even asked if they should remove the leather patch for me. In the end, the customer service was very good. Today a new pair of Tack jeans arrived. Really like the fit and am looking forward to wearing them.
