Help me coordinate my first Harris Tweed sportcoat!

Hey everyone, I recently purchased my first harris tweed sportcoat. I played it a bit safe and ordered one I knew would fit me, this BB fitz http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=678&Product_Id=1562273&Parent_Id=217&default_color=OLIVE&sort_by=&sectioncolor=&sectionsize=

The question is, how can i wear it? What color ties? Shirts? Pants? Is the pattern versatile? Attractive? I am new to tweed so I need some advice. I am including some pix here as the color is a bit different in real life. Off the top of my head I am thinking grey slacks or british tan dress chinos, blue shirt, burgundy grenadine? Thanks guys

Congratulations on your purchase. Lurk the WAYWRN thread. One suggestion I'll offer is, no black pants, socks or shoes with this jacket.

Stay away from other patterns. Solid shirt, pants, although a large windowpane shirt could work. Brown shoes.

A thin v-neck sweater w/o a tie could work.

Bowtie. Red grenadine tie.

Well thankfully I don't own any black pants happy.gif I lurk the WAYWRN everyday and most people have such cool tweed jackets, but I do not think I have seen one with this color scheme? Thanks for the suggestion though. Are charcoal/dark grey trous. a no go as well?

I do have a few large windowpane shirts. I was also thinking of sweaters. I have quite a few merino vnecks and cardigans (grey, burgundy, brown, blue, etc). Thanks for the suggestion. I have a burgundy grenadine from Kent Wang, no others however frown.gif

For context, I am 26, and bowties may be a bit much for my work enrivonment (I am a psych intern at a government hospital).

Some dark (chocolate) brown cords or moleskin trousers would look great. Keep it simple with a white shirt and a solid neutral tie (e.g. navy)

Thanks for the suggestion. Here is the rub, I am have not been able to find ANY classic slim brown cord trousers anywhere in the state of MI or even online. I would love some to go with this jacket. Also, my concern with this jacket is the gold deco that seems to run through it, is it too distracting? I like the suggestion of a navy tie. I think I will always wear this with a jumper or cardigan, however, as my office may get too hot to wear it all day but too cool to just wear a shirt.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I wouldn't wear a white shirt with that coat. Something in the beige or blue family.

Also, search Polo for cords on ebay. I've seen them in hunter green, brown, navy, etc. and they are slim fitting. The ones I speak of come unhemmed.

I'm wearing a similar tweed coat today with an olive chunky cableknit turtleneck, dark jeans and brown suede tassel loafers.

Wear with other clothing articles with heavier-weight fabric and Earthy tone colors.

I think a white shirt if fine if you are also wearing a sweater of sort.

Wool/cashmere and grenadine ties FTW. Silk pocket square always.

OP, thanks for posting as I have an interest on this item as well....I would definitely wear this with jeans/cords and solid shirts. But as OP asked, are charcoal/dark grey trousers a no go? cotton chinos?
Thanks....

Charcoal/gray trousers could work if the rest of the ensemble leans toward country wear, like longwings, a textured tie, or an earth-tone sweater/vest.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. NORE, what cords are you referring to? Are they Preston fit? I have never seen PRL cords on ebay that were unhemmed. If you have a link, that would make my day.

A new me,
NP sir. I was a little leary of the coat because it seems so busy but it seems that is how Harris works. Either way, it is a very unique fabric.

thnx NORE...i should stick to jeans and cords idea for now with country brogues. I'm afraid i may run into SF members and get beat up for improper "Tweeding" .

I forgot to mention, a pair of mid grey wool or flannel trousers, possibly in herringbone would go great, especially with some tan longwings.

When in doubt in fall/winter, wear mid grey flannel trousers. You will never go wrong.
