Clothing to wear to a viewing/rosery/funeral

Hi may I have some advice on what to wear to these types of events? I only own two sport coats right now, a tweed and a navy, and have no suits yet.
For the viewing and rosery (not sure what that is) I'm going to wear the tweed which has slight blue in it. I have a light tan shirt with a white collar and thin white stripes that I'd like to wear. Also going to wear shell #8 boots because I've just bought them and want to wear them everywhere.

My question is what color, tie, and pant should I wear? I own the light grey Epaulet cargo pants, would these go with this combo? Otherwise I have navy, black , khaki, lots of different corduroy.

For the actual funeral I guess I'll wear the navy jacket, dark navy pants and maybe a white shirt with black wingtips. I might look like a restaurant server but I don't own a black shirt. Please help with advise if you have time. Thank you.

White shirt, dark tie.
I would wear the black or khaki pants.

Just fyi, you'll find most men wearing all black to these events.

Sounds like you are on the right track.

You can go to the visitation and rosary dressed a little more casually than to the funeral. Although, personally I would not wear the khaki trousers in this case - as it's pretty late in the fall for Khaki in general and a darker color would be more appropriate. Dark brown shoes would be perfectly appropriate - although I would personally go with black.

For the funeral just keep the whole ensemble dark and somber - even the tie should be subdued (although can be almost any color). Avoid striped shirts, highly patterned ties, etc. etc. and you'll be fine.

Don't worry about looking like a restaurant server - black shoes with navy trousers are perfectly classic and appropriate.

As you get older and have access to more and more quality clothes get yourself a good solid black (or very dark navy) suit for these sorts of occasions.

If you do go with the black pants then you need black shoes and not burgundy.

But definitely white shirt with a subdued tie. I find vivid colors or colors in general distracting for these occasions - but that is just personal taste.

I think most people actually feel this way.

Thank you for the great advise. Some people showed up in jeans and polos. Well, I guess they made it. That's what is important, right? Thanks again!
