Yet another load of crap from the SA's this week. Disappointing...

It is a bit frustrating that he had to go through the online customer service to get the online price at the store.

But, it's very possible the salesperson is simply following the orders of his manager, who is likely following company policy. From the store's perspective, they'd rather sell the shoes to one of their local customers at a higher price than sell to "some guy" over the phone at a lower price. The local customer is much more likely to buy from them again and less likely to be shopping their store only at 40+15 time.

Also, warehouse space in the suburbs costs significantly less than retail space in the higher-end shopping centers where RL stores. As such, the online business has completely different cost dynamics than the retail store does. Expecting to get the absolutely best deal possible at the store level over the phone during their semi-annual sale really does smack of entitlement (i.e., because I read some message board and was made aware of a discount being offered to customers who purchase significantly more than I do, I should be able to demand that a customer service rep find a highly sought-after pair of shoes and sell them to me at 40+15 off). I'm not casting stones as I've done the same thing. But, I think we SF-types have expectations that RL or any other company could never meet if even 25% of their customers demanded what we do.

Yeah man. 50% off retail how often with RLPL and RLBL can you do better? Maybe I'm still a sucker for getting ripped off:foo:

Cross post from Recent Purchases, but since we're talking real financial damage - my Lindrick's arrived and, boy oh boy are they beautiful! This pic doesn't really show the depth of the shell, it's a lot richer looking in person. They practically has built-in patina nod[1].gif

I went to a brick and mortar today for the Marlow penny loafers, I informed my SA that I was aware of the sale.

I was first rung up at some crazy price that came out at $500+ after tax. The SA said they forgot the 15% kicker. Next time it was rung up it came out to $400 something.

I finally had to show them the $359 sale price on my phone; it eventually came out to $303 before tax.

good for you. even tho i got mine from the boston RL but was told that there's a dmg on the sole. i wonder if i should call and ask if they can order a flawless pair from other stores for me. but at the price that we pay, i kind of doubt that they are willing to do that.

just making sure...

the RL store has more items on sale at 40% off than what the website shows, right?
because the website shows pretty limited selection
planning on swinging by the store.. but not going to waste my time if the sale is limited to the same items that are showing up on the "private sale" page on the website

Yeah i'm sure the stores may have more items and better selection - but then again sale has been going on for some time now.
