Hitman: Absolution - The long wait looks worth it

This video just came out a couple weeks ago: 17 minutes of mission footage where 47 has to escape an abandoned Chicago library while being hunted by Chicago's finest.

In short, this looks amazing. I was beginning to wonder what was taking them so long to release the next installment after Hitman: Blood Money. Now I see why. Looks like they pulled out all the stops.

The gameplay looks like a blend of Hitman, Arkham Asylum, Assassin's Creed, and Red Dead Redemption. No more maps, no saves, players can set elaborate traps, use instinct mode (similar to detective mode in Batman: AA), and can use a tag and kill feature similar to RDR. 47 also looks a lot more agile than he has in the past.

Immediate reactions to the video:

Pros: Glacier 2 engine looks awesome, much more immersive, cinematic dialogue, more "organic" feel to gameplay
Cons: David Bateson is not voicing Agent 47, Jesper Kyd is no longer helming the soundtrack (new one seems to overuse the "Hans Zimmer Effect" horn section), NO OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE YET (other than the vague 2012)!

I always loved this game series, one of the best.

The only thing I disliked about this game was that there was never any moral ambiguity about your targets. The hits were always directed at corrupt politicians, pedophiles, serial rapists, etc.

Where's the nuance, dammit!?!

Psychopaths will love this game.

Sweet. Definitely looking forward to it!

i played blood money for 10 minutes before i got fed up with the cheesedick SFX. if you are going to make an assassination simulator, make damn sure that each tasty detail is in place. nobody likes sneaking around for half an hour to off a guy with a cap gun.

here's hoping they pull out all the stops, indeed.

Fucking loved all the hitman series and played each one till I went through all the scenarios. Still playing Blood Money to this day whenever I get bored. The meat market mission was amazing. Wish there was more blood/gore in the series.

One of the few games I bought to actually support the developers vs another stupid MW2 ripoff.

Ashamed to say that I never played any of the games in the series (due to me not playing video games at all...). But a PS3 is on its' way to my doorstep in two days... and from that little 17 min clip, holy moly! Definitely excited for this games' release!

Also one of my favorites. I believe it is early next year, but all they've confirmed is 2012. I suspect February/March. That seems to be the sweet spot for spring video games.

Game is just a week away. I don't get excited for video games much, but this one looks pretty damn awesome.
