I'm hoping someone can help with this.

I love the color of the Allen Edmonds burgundy shell Cambridge, but don't like that particularly last--too narrow and long for my foot. I love the lasts of the Alden balmoral wingtips, but prefer a lighter shade of burgundy than the color 8.

does anyone know of a shoe that is like the shell cordovan Cambridge in color but in a slightly wider last?

The Cambridge burgundy is a much lighter shade, more reddish while the Alden color 8 is more of an eggplant. The difference is significant.

The leather starts out the same color. Alden paints their #8 shells with purple dye.

On edit, if you really like the Alden version you could buy it and leave it in direct sunlight for a couple months. The purple dye fades to a nicer color fairly quickly in the sun.

that is a great idea. i stopped by brooks brothers today. they had some color 8 cordovan shoes by alden that looked like they had been sitting on display for a long time. the color was much lighter than the ones in the box--by a pretty huge margin. thanks for the input.
