Church's do offer the same shoe in polished binder and calfskin for the same price; therefore, giving the customer the choice of whether they want polished binder or not.
As for the use of polished binder, It is not something Prada introduced; I have a pair of pre-Prada Church's in polished binder. Polished binder does not always means inferior quality leather.

I have a pair of Church's consul in "regular" calf leather that I like a lot. Great business shoe, getting resoled now.
I have been looking for a black wingtip, and I have seen this shoe in person many times

I'm looking at the black "polished binder." I really like the substantial but dressy look of this Grafton model.
My question is: what is exactly wrong with the "polished" binder leather that Church's uses in many of its high end shoes? I understand the leather may be "corrected," but I am talking purely about characteristics apparent to the wearer (flexibility and durability of the shoe, how it breathes, how it shines, etc). Church's seems to use both regular calf and binder interchangeably in its shoes and charges the same amount, so it seems like these binder shoes aren't meant to be lower quality.
+1 on both posts. People, Church's DOES use normal calfskin. A LOT.
