I need career options without college

So is going back to school even for learning technical skills completely out of the question?

There is a big demand for truck drivers in this country, some trades like welding also will be afflicted by the great baby boomer retirement that everyone is predicting.

And learning a trade like welding is a solid idea. There always seems to be work for someone willing to bust his ass and swing a hammer.

Go work on oil rigs in the north sea or some desert hell hole.

Can you sell? I know a few guys with HS degrees or a bit of college and they did alright selling stuff like copiers, cars, or services.

+1 to swinging a hammer. Oil gas industry. Loading trucks. See if you're not too late for crab fishing season. Etc. There's always the military although I hear they're getting tons of recruits these days. Your best asset may be a fit body that can bust hump.

Yes, I was serious about the truck driving. Hell, i am considering get my class A license in California in the even I need to bust my ass for basic survival.

Move to North Dakota and work on a rig. You will have some life experiences and make very good money. Pay off your debts, save up cash, and figure out what you really want to do in life. Hopefully by then you will have enough of a cusion to make the neccessary investment into your new plan.

I dont see how you can live in NYC and do anything but pay rent without a college degree.

Fishing if it's still in season. Try restaurants or something of that sort if you want to stay in NYC. National parks usually have some jobs, pretty interesting work if you like the outdoors.

Apprenticeships, most are paid - my friend is 2yr HVAC apprentice, making $15 hr + mad overtime.

NYC is gonna be tough outside of a "trade" job or basic bs. Just being real!

Good luck bro. No bullshit. Sounds like you need money in a hurry and in this economy without special skills or training it could be pretty tough. Hell I would not be surprised to see truck drivers out there with degrees. It's ugly right now.

Know nothing about truck driving but how will our allowing Mexican trucks and drivers into the U.S. (part of NAFTA but long delayed thanks to domestic opposition) affect demand for labor?

Edit - If you're mechanically inclined look into being an elevator inspector. Know a guy that does it in DC and he seems to do well for himself (we don't talk income/money) and is happy with his union. Not sure how the market is in NY.
