Are these shell cordovan? (pix included)

Dear Folks:

I have a pair of Polo Ralph Lauren penny loafers, made in England.

The leather has the stiffness and sheen I associate with shell, but the shoes are not specifically marked as such. I know that not all shell is so marked, but I have not handled enough of it to be absolutely sure this is it.

The micro-creases in the large picture seem to clue me that these are calf and not shell.

Heel pattern is not very distinctive. Of course heels may not be original.

very likely C&J. normal calf.

elaboration: the second and third line of the markings are nearly identical to C&J mainline; though the top line doesn't make any sense to me.
