Seeking Briefcase Repair Recommendations

Would appreciate any recommendations or experiences with someone who can handle the repair of a clasp on a high-end briefcase. I am looking for an independent shop in the US (rather than sending it back to the manufacturer), as the maker is overseas and exorbitantly pricey in all they do. A google search identifies numerous briefcase/purse refurb shops that are focused on leather repairs and strap hardware, I am having trouble finding a shop that is comfortable with clasps beyond very simple work. The clasp on the bag is what you would typically find on a flap-over briefcase, essentially a pin that is held by a clasp and released by pushing a button up or down. Suspect that the clasp/pin has become disconnected from the spring or retaining wire, and just needs to be reconnected. Appreciate any thoughts. Thx.

Many cobblers repair womens handbags and may also be able to perform the repairs you need. Welcome to Styleforum.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am in Dallas and have tried a couple of places locally and they are unwilling/unable to work on the hardware. They will sew something back on, but that is really the extent of their ability. Will ask around the better retailers to see if there is someone local I am missing, but based on the fact I have trouble getting shoes resoled in an acceptable manner in this town, suspect I will come up empty. I am in NY every few weeks and there are two recommended purse refurb shops there that are highly regarded on the purse forums. I will give them a shot if I don't get a strong recommendation for someone else.

Thx for the welcome. Long time lurker, frequent searcher, seldom poster.

If I were you I would bring it to a jeweler or better yet a watch guy. They're used to working on small mechanical things, in fact a watch guy would probably already be familiar with clasps of many styles.

I just wish I could find a competent service to polish my briefcase.

A great suggestion, thanks. Actually a couple good watch guys in Dallas. I'm sure once they get it open it is a pretty simple fix. The challenge will be getting someone to deal with the rivets that hold it in place. The female side of the lock (on the bag vs the flap) is fastened to the bag using flush rivets vs a screw. This is one of those repairs that I suspect the right person could do in his or her sleep, but finding that person... I suspect a purse repair place is going to be the answer, though I've been surprised so far at their inability/unwillingness to deal with anything beyond leather repairs.

contactme_11, don't know if this is any help (and can't yet vouch for either), but these are apparently the two go-to NYC shops that are mentioned on the purse forums:
