why do people buy used raw denim?

i see threads in the BST selling used raw denim, for example they are a month old, i mean seriously that is dirty. all that sweat and dirt from wear and then when you get it you can't even wash it cause there are no creases yet, so you have to wear it just like that. so you save a bit of money by wearing dirty jeans for a couple of months is it really worth it?

I don't think the idea is to save money by not washing them. After a long time the creases set in to how you move and such. Back when I was a denimhead I didn't wash a pair of jeans for over two years and worse them probably at least 5 days a week. After I washed them the company bought them back from me in order to document the ageing of their jeans and to replicate the fades on their pre-faded line.

A. I don't see why you can't wash them.

B. A little bit of dirt and sweat isn't going to kill you. Some people just don't give a fuck.

Some might find that nobody wants to sit next to them be anywhere near them. Rather like when an unwashed smelly vagrant gets on a bus, people tend to move away.

I don't know why people by used clothing of any type. I mean really, you have no idea of the history of the item. Buying used shoes seems particularly strange to me but a lot of folks seem to do it. eh.gif

I think used top garments are OK, jackets, coats, sweaters, etc. provided they've been properly laundered and cleaned before wearing them and they're in good condition, I don't see it as a problem. I often wore jackets and coats bought second hand from charity shops in the UK. With living in China though, everything I buy and wear now is new. NO charity clothes shops here.

I agree about not buying used shoes though, because shoes will have shaped and bedded themselves to the previous owner's unique foot shape, plus whatever foot nasties the previous owner might have had like, fungus, HPV, etc, which could be lurking in them. I suppose if one puts them through an autoclave, used shoes might be OK at a push.
