Ultimately I've decided to frame nine of them and hang then three wide by three high (or perhaps 4 high w/ 12 in total).

I agree. Every once in a while a client who is setting up an estate plan will come with a stack of stock certificates that he or she has held for years (or sometimes decades). I'm always struck at how nice many of them are to look at--definitely frame-able in their own way.

The first I've purchased is a canceled certificate dated 1877 for stock in the Mobile and Ohio Rail Road Company.

Just got the fourth certificate. So far they are as follows:

Mobile and Ohio Rail Road Company (pictured above, family once owned 300K shares)
Baltimore and Ohio Rail-Road Company dated 1887
Packard Motor Car Company dated 1929
Pan American World Airways, Inc. dated 1974 (am looking for a better vintage)
