Dandruff shampoo recommendations?

I had problems with dandruff when I was younger, because my hair is very thin and light and any shampoo at all is very harsh on it.

I don't use shampoo at all anymore; instead, I add a few drops of jojoba oil when I shower to moisturize. My scalp is much healthier these days.

When I first switched off of shampoo there was a period of a week or two where my hair was mega oily because it was so used to being stripped dry every other day, but after it adjusted all was well.

Nizoral. Nizoral. Nizoral. Nizoral.

The shit works.

Nizoral really does work, usually in 1 shot, although give it several shampooings to make sure the dandruff doesn't come back.

But Nizoral is not everyone's cup of tea. There is the it fried my hair complaint.

Otherwise, try this:

Take 2 lemons. Cut into small pieces. Add a few teaspoons of dried Acacia concinna, and add just enough water to make a mixture that you will be able to boil or microwave for a few minutes, just to soften it all up. Blend into a paste in the blender, a paste with the consistency of shampoo. Just before showering, apply this paste all over your scalp and hair. Leave to soak for a minimum of 5 minutes, but if you want real results, wrap your head with shrink wrap and leave it to marinate for up to an hour. Because the lemon has been boiled, it won't be so harsh on your hair. Using raw lemon- 5 mins maximum or you will feel uncomfortable with the burning. Then, remove the shrinkwrap, and shower as normal. Wash everything out but do not shampoo that day. Repeat every few days, until the dandruff is gone.

This method is really good, because Acacia concinna is a natural hair conditioner, so it is really good for your scalp and hair. If you cannot find it, there is a third method, using Lawsonia inermis instead of Acacia concinna. NB: This method is only for dark-haired individuals. If you are blond and you try the third method, you will end up like Bozo the clown.

I used them all to no avail; Nizoral, T-Gel, H&S, Selsun Blue and many others. Nothing worked, and you are right winter is the worst.

I recently started using Apple Cider Vinegar and it seems like it helps a bit, but does not make it go away fully. Now Im thinking of getting a humidifier and hoping that will help, as I think that the dandruff is caused by the dryness in the air and makes it worse.

Most dandruff is the symptom of a fungus, so the humidifier would make it worse. All of those shampoos and the vinegar were recommended because they kill fungus.
