Need help with tie coordination for a bengal shirt

I recently picked up a bengal shirt from Brooks Brothers with thin, dark blue stripes. I know to avoid ties with a pattern that is similar in size, but I'd like to know what you all thought would be appropriate both in color and pattern.

Solids, polka dots, pindots, wowen ties!

I'm rather passionate about a plain grenadine tie with Bengal stripe.

I'm quite the opposite. Of all the non-plain shirtings, bengal is the blankest canvas there is. Just don't take a tie with a small pattern.

Polka dots or wide stripes. Solids would work too.

A plain woolen with texture (given the season) could be quite appropriate.

I think bengal stripes need two things in a tie: a darker colour and a wider pattern.

Solids - even textured solids - can be too flat against the vibrancy of the shirt especially if they're not darker than the shirt. Check out these combinations I used with a couple of bengal striped shirts over the course of this year for a few examples of some attempts that worked and some that fell flat on their face:

The most successful ones IMO are #2 & #5 (numbering from L>R, then working down), followed by #3 and #4. The least successful is #8 IMO, because it's a solid in too light a colour. But the darker #7 doesn't work either despite also being a textured solid because the lack of a pattern in the tie just seems "dead" against the shirt. Of course, people like different effects, but that's what I see.

Thanks so much for your input guys, and I really appreciate your pictures Holdfast. Is #7 a navy grenadine style tie?

Also for #2, is the bengal stripe a navy blue or an indigo? The shirt I have is more of an indigo.

The two shirts in the pics are a navy and a dark red/burgundy. The slightly different colours of them between snaps is down to different lighting and poor photography. #2 is the red.

The tie in #7 is probably a black grenadine, but it could have been dark navy (I have both, and can't really remember which that is, but I bet it's the black).

Coincidentally enough, I'm wearing a purple bengal-stripe (well, almost bengal-stripe) today. Not exactly conservative... ;) (pic's in the WAYWRN thread if you're interested).
