I've had a pro refin on some of my shoes with similar results. There can be a problem once you take out the shoe trees and actually start walking in them. I've had that glassy shine fade in minutes one the creases return from wearing the shoes.
I think once shoes are broken in to go for less of a high gloss and use a nice cream polish for a semi-gloss shine.

I've had similar things happen in the past. I generally only attempt a high gloss/mirror effect on the toes of captoes as the caps don't see creasing.
