Can you alter the width of a tie?

How simple is it to alter a tie, say from 3.5 inches down to 2.5 inches?

I'm a really small guy so standard ties over 3 inches wide look terrible on me.

However I've found some great paisley ties that I really love.

Any advice or links to tie altering instructions would be very much appreciated. I own a sewing machine.

TieCrafters will narrow ties for a price. You could do it yourself, but do not underestimate how difficult it may be to get a satisfactory result. For a large alteration, as you require, you will need to completely disassemble, recut and remake the tie. Do not expect to be able to easily remake a good tie to the same standard to which it was originally crafted. At least try it on a few cheap ties before attempting it on any good ones.
