Both have their uses. If I had to pick only one option, it would be button down shirts. Many of my old OCBDs get worn in the summer with sleeves rolled up in lieu of a polo. There is nothing better than a well-worn OCBD for comfort.
I always feel a bit "frat-boy-ish" in them. I much prefer button front shirts.

I only wear them when golfing.
Edit: I just roll up the sleeves on my button front shirts when it's hot. It doesn't show off the guns as well, but it looks better. (If you are Victor it doesn't matter, since his biceps bulge out of his suit/sport coats )

Ive seen some pics of guys that wear polos and chinos that look great. However, i just feel odd in one.
