i'm the opposite of the OP recent convert to the polo from button downs. though a few of both in classic colors are ideal.

Both have their uses. If I had to pick only one option, it would be button down shirts. Many of my old OCBDs get worn in the summer with sleeves rolled up in lieu of a polo. There is nothing better than a well-worn OCBD for comfort.

x2

I only wear them when golfing.

Edit: I just roll up the sleeves on my button front shirts when it's hot. It doesn't show off the guns as well, but it looks better. (If you are Victor it doesn't matter, since his biceps bulge out of his suit/sport coats laugh.gif )

Both - Polos in spring/summer only and button downs year-round.

i think both sides of the polo vs. bd debate are thinking of the worst wearers of both clothing items. the frat boy and the middle manager with a paunch.

Nearly always polos or casual shirts, button downs can be quite hard to find. Probably more of an American thing.

I have 6 of each in my current rotation. Polos at university, button downs at dinner.
