This will help with a lot of the mental stressors, less with physical stressors like dieting. Second, find ways to "vent" or release the stress. Working out, sex, whatever works. Hopefully train yourself to find something non-destructive, also good to avoid relying on alcohol or drugs as it sets up a bad cycle. Third, reduce unnecessary stressors in your life. Accepting that you can't do everything 100% will make life more manageable.
If you just rely on venting the stress, it really fucks up your body and psyche after awhile. Gotta get better at managing the load and processing potential stress inducers in a more healthy fashion.
I heartily agree with this post.
Thankfully I already have a pretty stress-free mentality. I don't let things get to me easily. I like structure in some cases, but when things aren't going to plan, I'm always ready to go with the flow. The only time I can recall being stressed out recently was when my GF broke up with me, I had to pack all my shit and find a temporary place to live, and still perform at work. I wasn't even that stressed about it, more like annoyed and a little frustrated. I like to look to the future and see that it's a happier place than right now, when things get rough; I think that helps too.
Working out, sporting activities and competition, cycling, driving really fast on twisty roads, hitting jumps on a ski slope, rough and physical sex are all things that de-stress me. Along with falling asleep while trying to read just a few more pages of a good book and just chilling on the couch watching some Jeopardy or Top Chef.
Find a few minutes in your busy life and schedule to just do what you want to do. Even if only for a 20 minute jog or 15 minutes in an easy chair with a good beer and a few pages of a book.
