Stress, How do you deal with it? - Page 4

I just run my way through stress on the treadmill.

I used to just hit the bottle and do stupid shit, but the past two weeks I've cut that out. I don't think there is a perfect answer, but I've been trying to change the whole way that I've been living - diet, sleep cycle, exercise routine, and the way that I've viewed the world.

Count the number of seconds to yourself as you breathe in --> 1-2-3 and make the out breath twice as long --> 1-2-3-4-5-6. Do this for a few minutes. It will relax you.

I was 218lbs and I'm now 147. You can do it! It's mostly the food you eat.

I hate people who recommend counting and breathing. It is useless for any real stress.

This will help with a lot of the mental stressors, less with physical stressors like dieting. Second, find ways to "vent" or release the stress. Working out, sex, whatever works. Hopefully train yourself to find something non-destructive, also good to avoid relying on alcohol or drugs as it sets up a bad cycle. Third, reduce unnecessary stressors in your life. Accepting that you can't do everything 100% will make life more manageable.
If you just rely on venting the stress, it really fucks up your body and psyche after awhile. Gotta get better at managing the load and processing potential stress inducers in a more healthy fashion.

I heartily agree with this post.

Thankfully I already have a pretty stress-free mentality. I don't let things get to me easily. I like structure in some cases, but when things aren't going to plan, I'm always ready to go with the flow. The only time I can recall being stressed out recently was when my GF broke up with me, I had to pack all my shit and find a temporary place to live, and still perform at work. I wasn't even that stressed about it, more like annoyed and a little frustrated. I like to look to the future and see that it's a happier place than right now, when things get rough; I think that helps too.

Working out, sporting activities and competition, cycling, driving really fast on twisty roads, hitting jumps on a ski slope, rough and physical sex are all things that de-stress me. Along with falling asleep while trying to read just a few more pages of a good book and just chilling on the couch watching some Jeopardy or Top Chef.

Find a few minutes in your busy life and schedule to just do what you want to do. Even if only for a 20 minute jog or 15 minutes in an easy chair with a good beer and a few pages of a book.

And there is more!
How the heck do you deal with stress?
I am exercising and eating very healthy, but wow, I am stressed to the max!

Start hanging out more at Public Restrooms/ Interstate Rest area's--Get out and meet New and Exciting People!! nod[1].gif

But Really: Just hang in there and Enjoy the Ride!! smile.gif

Worrying causes the worst stress for me. I dont so much mind other sources of stress. Some stress can be invigorating.

My stress is way down.

My move is pretty much complete and that has helped reduce stress a lot.

I have gotten rid of all "trainers" that were young females and I have a male trainer with a kinesiology degree. So I am exercising more than ever and properly. That helps a awful lot.

I have been going out with an age appropriate truly fantastic woman who is 100 times better than me and that is just wonderful.

Finally great things have been happening. The little business I do has been wonderful and great new projects keep coming my way. Like just randomly meeting a concentration camp survivor who is 84 years old but seems to be 40! I am going to do something like an oral history with her or attempt to write a story ( or pay someone to do it ).

So, while I am busy as ever, stress is way down for now.

I took up boxing fairly seriously a few years ago and it has helped me out tremendously.  I am so much more relaxed.

I might have seen your sister.

I give rides from my building to the museum for the lady who is one of only 6 survivors in Houston. And your sister would certainly know her.

On Sunday I am taking her to hear John Hagee at a Synagogue. Hagee is a big supporter of Israel.

Between her and spending some time with the world famous Doctor my stress has been lifted and I have never felt better in my life.
