i ordered two silk/wool ties from land's end
i also ordered a cashmere wrap for the girlfriend
separate orders... both "arrived" today...
the cashmere wrap was shipped via USPS and left at the door
the ties were shipped by fedex and i got a stickie on the door... and it says they will attempt delivery "mon - fri"

the $ totals of each order were about the same... and i chose the standard cheapest shipping option each time

UPS and USPS will leave at the door, FedEx will not. theyll leave a note and youll have to sign it giving permission to leave the package....which is why fedex is a pain in the ass.

You can give FedEx permission to leave any packages going forward. I also think you can instruct them where to leave it if you are not home (back porch, etc.).

Not earth-shattering I know, but IMO this type of thing should be the baseline quality for the box. There is currently a TON of crap that's serving only to clutter up the box (Geoffery Beene, Pierre Cardin, etc). I would say that if this is to be salvaged, it needs to be cleaned out. Not up to doing that myself, so I just tried to raise the quality level a bit.

Maybe we're now getting back on track. I thought allaboutshoes was exaggerating about there being geoffery beene and pierre cardin ties in there. I agree that the box will need to be cleaned up if this is to continue. But it's nice to see that you were willing to contribute to trying to make it better with your contributions.

The delta in shipping cost isn't worth the sure-to-be-excruciating conversation here about what to keep and what to leave out.

IIRC, one of the ties I sent was a Geoffrey Beene, but it was conservative (medium gray with purple bar stripes). I would happily have worn it, but I find that I have a really hard time with gray/silver ties because I tend to wear a lot of gray suits and blue shirts and the combo never looks right to me.

I think I must have generated some positive tie karma. Saturday the missus and I went to a consignment shop I hit up from time to time, and she found a few things she liked while I puttered around the street with our boys. I came back and she asked me to go in and pay while she made a phone call. I found that one of the clerks had tied the hangers together with what looked like a nice, soporific tie. I pulled it off, and it was an older Drake's. There was no tag, so I asked if the tie was for sale. The clerk told me just to take it!

I thought the Cardin etc. ties were a joke too. Whoever put those in there should be ashamed of yourselves.
