Venting a ventless jacket

Has anyone done this or had it done? Is this major, major surgery?

There have been some threads on this previously, and they may show up in a search - perhaps "adding vents to jacket" or using a similar search term might yield some results.

Anyway, for what it's worth, I think that it would most likely be impossible. A vent requires a reasonable amount of additional fabric, as the sides of the vent have to overlap each other by a reasonable amount, otherwise the vent would perpetually gape open. Ventless jackets would most likely not contain that additional fabric as there would be no need for them to do so, and hence I do not think that you could create vents.

Edit - here are a few past threads on the topic:

- Adding vents to jacket

- Adding a vent or vents to a jacket

- Jacket tailoring question - vents

Thanks. That sucks. If any of you wear a 42L and don't mind wearing a ventless jacket, this is a steal.
