Lanky arms and suits

I recently went out to buy a new suit and I read up on the forum about them. I am 6 foot 170lbs. Because of my long arms I am usually measured as a 40L but I feel like the suit coat falls too long, however, if I go with a 40R, the arms are way to short. On the 40L my seat is covered, probably an inch more than normal. With most suits I was swimming with the 40L, but it was not as bad with the 40L from Calvin Klein that I ended up with. Opinions/Advice?

Have the sleeves let out on the 40R. I have a similar issue, and used to buy longs on the advice of salespeople in order to get longer sleeves. Regulars fit me better and the sleeves can be let out.

Yeah I ended up with the 40L. Is that an issue. Everyone seems to think I should be a long, but I think letting the sleeves out will look better. I am 19 so people think I should be in the long for some reason. Any advice on what to do with the long now that I have it?

If the length is okay on a 40R, then grab a 40R and have the sleeves lengthened.

Yeah I hear you. The real issue is that I have the 40L and I am not used to is I guess. I guess due to my long arms I am used to a shorter jacket.

Salespeople in department stores would rather sell you a long than spend the time to have your sleeves let out. Don't let them talk you into taking a long when what you need is a regular. When I was younger and didn't know better, I got sucked into this mindset.

My parents were with me and thought that the long looked better too. Do I just have different taste that is more contemporary?

I think you should post some pics of you wearing it so we can judge. At 6'0" I would normally expect you to need a long, but it can vary. You may just be too used to the current fashion for excessively short coats.

Probably. Every now and then newer posters would post fit pics of themselves and worrying about the jacket being too long when the consensus of the forum was that the jacket was actually too short as it was already.

2 years ago I thought suit fits on those ASOS models were awesome laugh.gif

Im 6'1, 165 ish with monkey arms too... try and go with a 40R to let out if you can.
