Flathead 3009s - when to wash?

I recently bought a pair of Flathead 3009s. I've soaked them twice, they have shrunk appropriately and fit well. I've heard that you need to wait at least 6 months before putting them in the washing machine.

What is the downside of washing them earlier? Will they further shrink if they are cold washed and hung to dry or is it more a matter of the color/fade that develops with not putting them in the wash?

Don't wait that long before washing them. Wash them every couple of months if you're wearing them every day or almost every day.
Washing them also will make the jeans last longer.

Thanks Kiya. I haven't hemmed them yet. Should I first before hemming?

I also bought a pair of IH 634s. Since these were sanforized, I had them hemmed right away since I figured they wouldn't shrink too much in the lenght. Should I follow the same directions with the washing - cold wash, hang to dry?

By the way, I got both of these in your NYC store a couple of weeks ago - nice shop!

For the IH jeans you should cold wash/line dry them when they're ready to be cleaned.
For the FH jean don't hem them till after they've been soaked/washed because the length will shrink 3" after the soak/wash.
