Need Help Finding a Special Black Tie...

Hi All,

My sisters wedding is coming up in a few weeks, and to go with my black suit I want to wear a special black tie instead of a basic black tie.

I remember seeing these ties in Vegas that had crystals on them, and the only one I could find online is by Stefano Ricci @ Nieman Marcus and it costs almost $400. Sorry to say but that is way out of my budget for a tie.

I was wondering if anyone knew of other companies that make ties like this.

If not, can anyone suggest a "special" black tie that wont look plain and boring? I prefer something a bit slimmer than the standard tie width.

Get a black grenadine fina tie made by Sam Hober, you can specify the length and width and it won't look boring and gigolo like the one you posted.

LOL I know it sound cheesy, but seriously a friend of mine had one and it was very sharp! I am not one that goes for that ED HARDY look, in fact I dress very simply. I just wanted to have something that had a little difference to it.

I am abandoning this idea then!!!!

Can anyone suggest a nice black tie that stands out a bit? I have a black tie at home that is pleated, but I already wore it a couple of times this year. I would love to have something special for my sisters wedding.

I think he has one of these bedazzled ties that he might be willing to rent out or sell.

A very high priced item as I recall.

Not to my tastes at all - but to each their own!

Sam Hober has black ties in cashmere or grenadine (both garza grossa and garza fina), all of which add a bit of texture to the tie to make them slightly more interesting. That being said, I was always under the impression that standing out isn't really the intention of wearing a black tie.

No can do, for photos and whatnot my parents would like all of the sons/son-in laws wearing black suits/ties.

Maybe I can pull off something with my shirt. I am trying to create a custom pleated shirt via modern tailor.

I'm far from the expert on such matters but I'll offer my thoughts anyway smile.gif

Firstly, weddings are all about the bride. Efforts to stand out at a wedding (when you are not the bride) should be avoided. Secondly, it is preferable for a gentleman to distinguish himself in ways that are not flashy or garish. I would suggest finding something traditional and of the highest quality you can afford. You will look appropriate on the day and in the photos for years to come. bigstar[1].gif

Or, if it's something shiny you want why not look for a high quality satin in gray. It's a classic and appropriate look for a wedding. If you must have flash then just make sure it's good and shiny.

You might also want to consider some really dashing black shoes - nothing like a great pair of sleek black shoes to make a black suit and gray tie come off as extra elegant.

Thanks, i am not trying to take away from anything or anyone, I just wanted a little something special for myself. It's not like I am parading around in a yellow tie. I understand the distinguished look but I wanted something with a little flair instead of blending in with nearly 1.000 people at this wedding.

That beind said, I will just find a slim black tie that people have suggested, and I will make a custom white tux shirt wtih modern tailor. I am thinking of doing something a bit different, white shirt of course with pleats but a black contrast wide spread collar, black buttons, black lining inside the placket and french cuffs. Any support on this? or just keep it plain white with pleats?


GDOT, just looked at those shoes and the first pair is amazing. They are out of budget unfortunately so i will stick with the shoes I already have (Ferragamo's)

Inform your parents that silver ties are more wedding classic and see if they'll change their mind?????? Or even gray/black glen plaid? It will bring a bit of life to the whole wedding party.

I don't think most around here are going to give you their blessing for the shirt you described - it's a pretty 'tasteful classics' sort of crowd around here. And in this case I completely agree. Plain and white with pleats, french cuffs, and simple elegant studs/cufflinks with black stones. Classic is as classic does.
