Is white socks standard with streetwear? - Page 2

no, i almost never match socks to trouser. as for deciding when to wear what pair, it's just second nature to know... i dont put that much thought into it

Uniqlo is good for solid colors cheap. 4 pair for $10 and multiple shades of purple. I try to avoid white socks that will show; it's somewhat of a faux pas.

I wear argyle socks basically every day because I bought like 12 pairs on eBay for cheap a couple months ago. Ditching white socks was such a good idea.

i never match socks to pants either. i kind of like them to clash. especially since some of the paul smiths i have are pretty multi-colored, there is no real way to match anyway. It's the one place where i actually wear bright colors. H&M had some some cheap socks that were solid colors with black stripes last time i checked. $3 a pair i think...

It's funny, I have a lot of white socks, but I never wear them to work out in. As said above, with boots it really doesn't matter (unless having white socks on will bug you the whole day even though no one will see them). I will admit to wearing white socks with shoes, but that is only because my obsessive compulsive tendencies were pointed in a different direction that day.

I dunno - I'm not compelled to wear anything but white socks with white sneakers... Don't you find it weird wearing white sneakers, and darker socks? I think it's old-mannish in itself (but also the other way, white socks with dark shoes)

IIRC, looking through the book that came with the Jam boxset, there is a photo or two of Weller with white socks. The Hives could get away with wearing white socks as well.

I follow The Rules and match socks and pants. Means I wear a lot of navy socks with jeans. As pathetically stingy as this sounds, my favorite socks are Vietnam Airlines Business Class giveaways, the ones that come free to wear around the cabin in the little bag with the toothpaste and the shoehorn. I really like em, have like five pairs now. Plus, theyre navy, so go with my jeans. Jesus I'm cheap White socks - nup, no way. Sporting use only.

That's one of those "looking back what were we thinking" kinda deals....white socks were real big during the late 70s mod revival, but in hindsight I think everyone from that era agrees it was a sartorial tragedy.

Reminds me of one guy on a (now defunct) mod forum who claimed that white socks look really tight with black trousers and black dress shoes. From the ensuing discussion, it was clear he was going to defend this look to the death.

Yeah. I can understand darker socks sartorially better now, but I can't imagine wearing anything but white socks with white sneakers.

If yer wearing white sneakers, you can always match your sock to a color in your shirt, maybe a stripe on the sneaker, or other piece of gear you're wearing.

I only wear white socks to the gym, and even then, only sparingly so. Usually I wear socks in various shades of blue, red or purple.

Most of my socks are boringly cream or gray or garment washed blue. I like argyles and stripes, but honestly, walk a lot and go through lots of socks, so expensive socks are not really my thing.

i almost never sneakers, and generally wear colored socks with my shoes. sometimes they match the pants, sometimes the shoes, sometimes the shirt or something else.

if i'm wearing sneakers, i'll wear white socks when working out. otherwise, colored socks with long pants and sometimes white ankle socks if wearing shorts and not wearing sandals.
