London thrift shopping

Just wondering if anyone can list any good thrift shops to check out in London. I'll be headed there to study for a couple of months, and would like to wear more than the usual American college kid duds (you know the usual suspects). Thanks.

Let me know what sort of items are you looking for? There are shops who specialise in vintage Savile Row type gear, Retro 50s and 60s stuff, last season's designer clobber or the run-of-the-mill charity shop who has a bit of everything.

Mostly previous seasons' designer clothes, although the vintage Savile Row shops sound rather interesting. Do you know about how much the latter's wares cost?

Try these two places if you are looking for antique clothing: i.e. the stuff gentlemen of yesteryear once had tailored at great cost: BERTIE WOOSTER / 248 Fulham Rd / London SW 10 / (020) 7352 5662 OLD HAT / 62 Fulham High Street / London SW 6 / (020) 7610 6558 After all Hackett, which is now a very big men's outfitter, started off selling second-hand clobber at Parson's Green. Also have a look at Portobello Road Market on Friday and Saturday and at Spitalsfield and Brick Lane Markets (in walking distance of each other) on Sundays. For the hard-core Prada and Dolce & Gabana fan club, try your luck at MEN'S DESIGNER EXCHANGE / 50 Blandford Street / London W 1 / (020) 7224 3266 Good luck
